The Materials

Why we use it:

Aluminium is an excellent choice for outdoor use due to its remarkable resistance to rust, along with its lightweight and robust properties. What makes it even more impressive is its versatility when it comes to colors – it can be effortlessly painted in a wide array of shades, keeping up with the latest styles and trends. At Fairford & Stow, we take immense pride in our in-house designed aluminium products, all rigorously tested to ensure utmost durability in the face of outdoor challenges.

Aluminium

Why we use it:

Artificial Rattan, also referred to as "Wicker" or "Poly-Rattan," soared in popularity during the early 2000s. Crafting this material into beautiful weaves requires years of experience and training, and at Fairford & Stow, we have chosen Vietnam and Indonesia as our preferred production locations. These places strike a fine balance between quality and value, ensuring that our customers receive the best of both worlds.

We take pride in using only virgin materials during the formulation process, and our artificial rattan can be tailored for specific markets to enhance UV stability, longevity, and color retention. Rest assured, when you choose our products, you're selecting furniture that embodies the highest standards of quality and care, promising years of enjoyment in your outdoor spaces.

Steel

Why we use it:

Compared to aluminium, steel boasts greater weight and significantly higher strength. To shield it from rusting and ensure a sleek appearance, steel is commonly powder coated and galvanized, rendering it almost indistinguishable from its pricier counterpart, aluminium, at first glance.

The robustness and durability of steel make it an excellent option for furniture. Not only does it withstand the elements with resilience, but it also offers exceptional protection against damage, chips, and scratches, rendering it nearly indestructible when manufactured correctly. While it's crucial to safeguard steel from rust by preventing exposure to water and oxygen, when handled properly, it becomes an incredible choice for crafting cost-effective and intricate designs.

Teak

Why we use it

In response to criticism in the 1990s, triggered by illegal logging and resulting deforestation, a substantial conservation effort has been dedicated to protecting teak. At Fairford & Stow we take great pride in sourcing all our teak from FSC certified suppliers or those with a complete chain of custody, in full compliance with the EU's FLEGT regulation. This ensures that our teak comes exclusively from responsibly managed sources, offering you and your customers peace of mind. Additionally, we offer a wide range of coatings and finishes to give our teak furniture various captivating looks.

Teak boasts an array of benefits, most notably its stunning color and grain. Beyond its appealing appearance, teak showcases exceptional durability and strength, demonstrating superb weather resistance and the ability to withstand splitting and cracking.

Why we use it

Eucalyptus and Acacia offer an excellent and budget-friendly alternative to teak while still delivering numerous key benefits. These woods naturally contain oils with insect, water, and moisture-repelling properties, enhancing the furniture's longevity and condition by providing resistance to rot and decay when well maintained.

Notably, both Eucalyptus and Acacia trees are fast-growing, making them a sustainable resource and a top choice among environmentally conscious consumers.

Eucalyptus wood exhibits rich, red-brown tones with delightful light grain patterns, while Acacia boasts a charming, pale finish with unique knots that add character. Depending on market preferences, both can be finished smooth or rough while retaining their sturdy and supportive qualities, making them an exceptional value choice for both indoor and outdoor use. Embrace the beauty and practicality of Eucalyptus and Acacia as they grace your living spaces with their natural allure.
